Job Description

Company Description

Star Contractors is a well‑established construction company delivering high‑quality projects across London for local authorities, housing providers and private clients.

We’re proud of our reputation for reliability, quality workmanship and strong relationships with clients, suppliers and our own team.

As our workload continues to grow, we’re looking for a proactive and organised Assistant Bookkeeper to join our friendly Head Office team.

The Role

This is a great opportunity for someone with solid bookkeeping experience—ideally within construction—who enjoys variety and takes pride in keeping things running smoothly.

You’ll support the Office Manager with day‑to‑day finance tasks, maintain accurate records, and help ensure our accounts and office operations stay on track.

Key Responsibilities
• Processing sales and purchase ledger invoices.

• Bank and credit card reconciliations.

• Maintaining and producing cash flow analysis.

• Strong VAT and CIS knowledge for HMRC submissions.

• Preparing labour timesheets for management sign‑off.

• Liaising with site teams, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

• Assisting with year‑end accounts preparation.

• Monitoring cash flow, preparing trial balances and supporting schedules.

• Project costing and allocating charges to the correct project.

• Registering and verifying new suppliers and subcontractors.

• General office administration and file management.

• Working closely with the Office Manager to support smooth office operations.

• Processing invoices on Sage 50.

What we're looking for
• AAT Level 3 (or higher).

• Experience in accounts and administration (construction experience preferred).

• Confident communicator (written, verbal, internal and external).

• Strong IT skills: MS Office, Outlook and Sage 50.

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a busy environment.

• Professional telephone manner.

• Proactive, reliable and able to use your initiative.

• Full UK driving licence (optional).

If you’re an organised, reliable bookkeeper who enjoys a mix of finance and admin — and you want to be part of a growing local business — we’d love to hear from you.

Pay: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year
